Simple planet LAB, located in Guro, occupies an entire floor where laboratories, offices, and a lounge coexist as a single research environment. Reflecting the company’s focus on cultivated meat and healthy food development, the project balances functional efficiency with symbolic gestures. With the exception of a few restricted zones, the design encompasses the whole floor, creating a narrative that can be shared by both visitors and researchers.

The entrance employs existing Barrisol lighting to create a luminous focal point, while segmented signage animates the façade with a dynamic expression. As one steps out from the elevator hall, the shifting front greets visitors immediately. Along the corridor, the angled openings of fire doors form a subtle pattern, introducing rhythm to what might otherwise have been a monotonous passage and orchestrating the tension and release of the space.

Positioned between the laboratory and the office, the lounge acts as a mediator for both realms. At its core is the kitchen, designed not as a simple break area but as a stage for guests and investors. A concealed screen transforms the space into a presentation hall when needed, while demonstrations and tastings using cultivated meat turn the kitchen into a site of performance. These moments deliver research outcomes through the senses while simultaneously operating as devices for investment engagement.

A wall of magic glass links the lounge and the laboratory, shifting to transparency to reveal ongoing research. This direct visual connection allows visitors to trace the food they taste back to its origin, experiencing the effort and process spatially as well as sensorially.

The overall tone of the interior merges the identities of laboratory and office. The lab is finished in white, emphasizing cleanliness and clarity, while the lounge employs stainless steel and monochrome films to create a timeless atmosphere. The relatively low ceiling height is mitigated through perforated panels, producing a greater sense of openness.

At the entry, lockers replace thin partitions, giving weight to the boundary, while curved corners ensure fluid movement. The corridor flows naturally into the lounge, encouraging active use by both researchers and visitors.

Simple planet LAB goes beyond fulfilling the basic functions of laboratory and office. By making the research process visible and sharing it through the lounge, the space embodies the company’s identity. The lab’s clarity and the lounge’s monochromatic tones, though contrasting, are intricately interwoven to construct a unified narrative of research, exchange, achievement, and experience.

구로에 자리한 Simple Planet LAB은 실험실과 오피스, 라운지를 한 층 전체에 담은 연구 공간이다. 배양육과 건강한 식품 개발을 중심에 둔 기업의 성격에 맞추어, 기능적 효율성과 상징적 장치가 동시에 작동하도록 계획되었다. 일부 보안 구역을 제외한 전 영역은 디자인에 포함되어, 방문자와 연구원이 경험을 공유할 수 있는 서사를 이룬다.

진입부는 기존 바리솔 조명을 활용해 밝은 포인트를 주었으며, 분절된 전면 사이니지를 통해 살아있는 파사드를 형성한다. 엘리베이터 홀에서 들어서는 순간, 움직임을 가진 전면부가 방문자를 맞이한다. 복도는 방화도어의 열리는 각도를 이용해 요철 패턴을 만들고, 단순히 길게 이어질 수 있는 동선에 리듬을 더해 공간의 긴장과 완급을 조율했다.

라운지는 실험실과 오피스 사이에 놓여 두 영역을 동시에 연결한다. 중심 장치는 ‘키친’으로서, 단순한 휴게 시설을 넘어 손님과 투자자를 위한 무대로 작동한다. 필요 시 매입형 스크린을 내려 발표 공간으로 전환하고, 동시에 배양육을 활용한 식품을 직접 경험하는 장면을 연출한다. 이곳에서의 시식은 연구의 결과를 감각적으로 전달하는 방식이자, 투자 유치라는 목적에 기여하는 퍼포먼스적 장치이다.

라운지와 실험실을 잇는 매직글라스는 상황에 따라 투명하게 변해 연구 과정을 직접적으로 노출한다. 방문자는 라운지에서 맛보고 본 결과물이 어디서 비롯되는지, 그 배경에 놓인 노력을 공간적, 감각적으로 경험하게 된다.

전체적인 톤은 실험실과 오피스의 이미지를 통합하는 데 맞추었다. 실험실은 청결과 명료함을 강조했고, 라운지는 스테인리스와 무채색 필름을 적용해 타임리스한 톤앤매너를 만들었다. 낮은 층고는 천장에 타공판을 적용해 시각적 개방감을 확보함으로써 극복했다.

입구의 벽체는 얇은 파티션 대신 라커로 구성해 두께감을 더했고, 곡선형 코너들을 통해 동선의 유연성을 확보했다. 복도와 라운지는 자연스럽게 이어져 연구원과 방문자가 적극적으로 라운지를 활용하도록 유도한다.

이 공간은 단순히 실험실과 오피스의 기능을 충족하는 데 머무르지 않는다. 실험 공간을 시각화하고 라운지를 통해 공유함으로써, 기업의 정체성을 공간으로 구현한다. 실험실의 청결함과 라운지의 무채색 톤은 상반되면서도 긴밀히 맞물려, 연구와 교류, 성과와 경험을 함께 담아낸다.
